Obituary for Grace Clary Averett

Grace Clary Averett, age 90, of Tuscaloosa, formerly of Greensboro, died September 29, 2015, at Forest Manor Nursing Home in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on October 1, 2015, at the Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church Cemetery near Greensboro with the Reverends James I. Davis and Wade McCrory officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes Greensboro Chapel directing.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Stewart Averett; her mother, Lella Mae Montz Clary; her father, Prime Wesley Clary; her sisters Artie Myrle Walker, Doris Moore, Ruby Barnette, Hazel Crews, Jean Johnson and Sarah Nell Cole; and her brother, Wesley Clary.

Survivors include her daughters, Shirley McClurkin (Mack) of Thomasville, Ala., Dorothy Boteler (James) of Vestavia Hills, Ala., Betty Curtis (Danny) of Ward, Ala.; and her son, Larry Averett (Lisa) of Greensboro, Ala.; her grandchildren, Beth Borak (Hugh) of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Billie McCIurkin of Birmingham, Ala., Julie Boteler of Hoover, Ala., Danielle Spree (Kee) of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Leigh Powell (Chilton) of Vestavia Hills, Ala., John Averett (Alicia) of Tuscaloosa, Ala. and Dalton Averett of Greensboro, Ala.; and her great-grandchildren, Jackson, Joshua, and Sarah Borak of Tuscaloosa, Ala. and Jack Powell of Vestavia Hills, Ala.

The daughter of Prime Wesley and Lella Mae Clary, Grace was born on January 12, 1925, near Greensboro, Alabama. She was a member of the Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church. She married Luther Stewart Averett on March 26, 1942. In 2007, they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
She was a loving Christian wife, mother and a very talented person. Sewing and cooking were her favorite hobbies. Her summers were spent canning and freezing vegetables, not only for her family, but to share with friends and neighbors. She made Iovely quilts and often gave them as wedding gifts to family members and relatives. She was Ioved very much and will be greatly missed.

Pallbearers will be Dalton Averett, John Averett, Hugh Borak, Jackson Borak, Joshua Borak, Chilton Powell, and Kee Spree.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Mt. Hermon Church Cemetery.
