Obituary for Col. John Keaton Gibler U.S. Army (Ret)

Col. John Keaton Gibler, 86 , of Marion died April 17, 2017. He was born on June 6, 1930 in Mattoon, Illinois to the late John W. and Jeanie Sullen Gibler. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Jane Allen. He is survived by his wife, Anna W. Gibler, son John M. Gibler, his brother James C. Gibler, 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. The funeral service with full military honors will be Thursday April 20, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Marion Military Institute in the Chapel. The family will receive friends at the Chapel one hour prior. Burial will follow at St. Wilfrid's Episcopal Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Phil Murphy, Irby Pope, Col. Bill Hansen, LTC David Bauer, Dr. Doug Halbrook, Randy Lee, and Charles Holmes. The Reverend Doctor Daniel Thornton will be officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel directing. In lieu of flowers, the family ask memorials be made to the Alabama Military Hall of Fame.
