Mary Teresa Brannan Tims

October 3, 1924 – August 18, 2017

Mrs. Mary Teresa Brannan Tims went home to be with Her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the evening of August 18, 2017 at her home. She was 92.

Services were held Tuesday, August 22, at the Newbern Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Paul Reitzer and Rev. Steve Vernon officiating. A eulogy was delivered by Grandson Tripp Hughes. Kirk Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Tims was born in Citronelle, Alabama October 3, 1924 to Ernest Ivy Brannan, Sr. and Flora Robinson Clark Brannan. She attended Citronelle High School and graduated in 1941. During World War II she worked as Clerk Typist at Brookley Field in Mobile, Alabama. It was in Mobile where she met her husband, C.L. Tims, Jr. She was a resident of the Newbern Community for 63 years.

During this time Mrs. Tims and her husband were dedicated members of the Greensboro Baptist Church and for the last 40 years the Newbern Baptist Church where she served as Church Clerk for over 30 years. She also enjoyed attending the Greensboro Bible Methodist Church on Sunday Evenings where she enjoyed the singing and Bible study. Mrs. Tims was very active in the WMU and had a heart for missions. She also loved the Newbern Union Sunday School and the Newbern Community.

Mrs. Tims was a founding member of the Newbern Coffee Club, was the Treasurer of the Hale County Homemakers Club and was a member of the Greensboro Homemakers Club for over fifty years. She and her husband were founding members of Southern Academy, Greensboro, AL.

Mary married her husband of 64 years Clifton L. Tims, Jr. on July 3, 1943. To this union seven children were born: William Larry (Linda) of Hoover, AL, Mary Anne Woodham, Betty Jean of Newbern, Alice Louise Newton of Elberta, John Clifton (Allie) of Tyler, Ernest Martin (Janet) of Butler, and Constance Lynn (Ted) Hughes of Elberta.

She was preceded in death by her husband, C.L. Tims Jr., Daughter Mary Anne Tims Woodham, Daughter-in-law Janet Teresa Gibson Tims, Granddaughter Vineesa Pinson, Grandson Justin Brannan Tims, and Grandson-in-law T. C. Dearmon.

Mrs. Tims had 11 Grandchildren, John P. Woodham III of Newbern, Kristen Kroodsma (Eric) of Chatom, Kandace Dearmon (T.C) of Chatom, Kayle Newton of Elberta, Chad Newton of Foley, Cliff Hughes of Tuscaloosa, Tripp Hughes of Auburn, Jeff Hughes of Elberta, Shannon Busby (Yancey) of Elberta, Amanda Galloway of Tuscaloosa, and Viletta Pinson of Gainesville GA.

Great-Grandchildren are Kaitlyn Kroodsma, Jace Dearmon, Halle Dearmon, Joseph Michael Brannan, and Avie Busby.

Pallbearers are John Woodham, Christopher Blake, Mark Estes, David Brabham, Irvin Shirley, Joe Ford, Joe Brannan, and Leon Brannan.
