Obituary for Lloyd Arrington

Lloyd Arrington
Lloyd Richard Arrington Sr. of Greensboro, AL passed away peacefully in his sleep at his residence on November 29, 2017. A celebration of his life will be held at Greensboro Bible Methodist Church at 10:00 a.m. with graveside services to follow at Oakwood Martin Cemetery.

Lloyd Richard Arrington Sr. was born and raised in Greensboro, AL. He served in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1956 in Hawaii, Korea and Japan on the U.S.S. Bonhomme Richard and the U.S.S. Destroyer Lofberg. During his tour of duty, his most enjoyable role was serving as a pilot on a ship’s tender. He worked for the state highway department for a number of years and retired from the Hale County Highway Department in 1995. He spent his retirement contributing to the community by maintaining the clock tower at the Greensboro Courthouse and handling the voting machines for Hale County. He was also a treasured member of the Greensboro Bible Methodist Church.

Lloyd was a creative spirit who enjoyed building and making things. He was a skilled carpenter, gardener, grillmaster, artist and musician. His sharp wit and cleverness brought joy and laughter to everyone he encountered. He maintained a youthful zest for life that never waned even in his last days. He was a joker and a prankster who knew how to have fun but also possessed an unparalleled work ethic that made him an excellent provider for his family. A true Renaissance man, he had an ability to accomplish anything he set his mind to — everything from installing hardwood floors to strumming his favorite tune on the guitar. He had many friends and enjoyed frequent social calls at his home where he would often send visitors home with a bag of homegrown tomatoes or a sack of cracked pecans.

Lloyd is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret Sulser Arrington; sons Lloyd Richard Arrington Jr.(Betsy) of Greensboro, AL and John Eric Arrington (Joni) of State College, PA; grandchildren Erica Ashley Arrington, Lloyd Richard Arrington III, John Tyler Arrington and George Georgiadis; great-grandchild Genevieve Effie Georgiadis; nephew Drew Childers; special friends Polly and Virgil Johnson, Jim and Kim Putnam, Debbie and Charles McKinney and Johnny and Flora Whaley; and beloved dog Mollie B.

He is preceded in death by his parents Charles Clifton Arrington and Marie Bonds Crawford, sisters Inez Adams and Gladys Owens, brother Charles C. Arrington and his wife’s aunt and close family member Inez Nichols Childers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Greensboro Bible Methodist Church.
