Obituary for Evard "Billy" Flowers

Evard “Billy” Flowers, age 93 of Demopolis passed away February 16, 2018 at his home. Services will be Monday, February 17, 2018 at 1:00 pm at First Baptist Church, Demopolis with Dr. Carl Williams and Dr. Allen Atkins officiating. Burial will follow at Demopolis Memorial Gardens with Kirk Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be prior to the service, at 12:00 noon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Minnie Flowers; brother Ernest Flowers; sisters Frances Barr, Merle Sims, and Ora Wimberley; and granddaughter Melanie Flowers.

Survivors include his loving wife of 69 years, Florence Flowers; sons Ronnie (Antoinette), Mike (Diane), and Tim (Linda); brother Earl (Mary) Flowers; sister Annie Lee (Tom) Dunn; grandsons Ron (Beth), Cruse (Katherine), Sam, Michael (Eve), David, Brian, and Daniel; and great grandchildren Billy, Jenna, Wells, Cruse, and Kate.

Billy was born October 19, 1924 in Aimwell, Alabama. He graduated from Linden High School, and served in the US Army Air Forces during WWII, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Billy moved to Demopolis in 1949 and began a 31 year career at Loyd Jones Chevrolet. He then worked at Hobson State Technical College in Thomasville AL until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of the Demopolis Lions Club for 65 years, serving in every major club position as well as District Governor. Billy was an active member of First Baptist Church and served in numerous roles, including Deacon, for many years.

Pallbearers will be Ron Flowers Jr., Cruse Flowers, Sam Flowers, Michael Flowers Jr., David Flowers, Brian Flowers, Daniel Flowers, Darrin Flowers, and Tom Sessions. Honorary pallbearers are the member s of the Demopolis Lions Club, and the Ulmer Tucker Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church.

A special thanks from the family goes out to Always Home Caregivers, SouthernCare New Beacon Hospice, and Elnora Lewis for their care during this time. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to First Baptist Church of Demopolis, or the Alabama Lions Sight Conservation Association.
