Obituary for Lawrence Elwin Terry

Lawrence E. Terry, 84, of Marion, Al, passed away on July 8, 2018 at his home. He is preceded in death by his parents Jade and Mary Lou Terry; siblings Mary Grubic, J.P. Terry, Ora Looney, Bernice Trask, Jadie Terry and Charlie Mason Terry. He is survived by his wife Barbara Black Terry; daughter Katherine T. Aguilar; grandson Griffin Lawrence Aguilar; sister Shirley T. Crawford ( James ); brother Robert Terry ( Cathy) and several nieces and nephews. Lawrence was a graduate of Perry County High School and Marion Military Institute ( MMI ). He served 4 years in the US Navy during the Korean War Conflict on the USS Telfair. Lawrence had a cameo role in the movie " Francis in the Navy" starring Donald O' Conner and Martha Hyer which was filmed on the ship, of which he was most proud. As a member of the VFW, he served as District Commander in 1969. He was featured in Marquis Who's Who in the South and Southwest - 13th Edition 1973 - 1974. For many years he was self employed as a pork producer and owner of Terry's Feed Mill in Marion. He served 4 years on the Perry County Commission ( District 2) and several years as a member of the Perry County Hospital board. He was later recognized for his many years of service to the youth of Perry County. In 1999 he retired as manager of Perry County Co-op. Funeral services will be Wed. July 11, 2018, at 11 am at Siloam Baptist church with Rev. John Nicholson officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel directing. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to service. Graveside service will begin at 4 p.m. at Mt. Tabor Cemetery in Hartselle, Al. Active pallbearers will be Mike Crews, Ronnie Cornhill, Robbie Branton, Michael Knight, Rob Terry, Steven Terry, Tim Terry, and Daniel Vann. Honorary pallbearers will be Drs. Zak and Sanford, Teresa, Lawanna, and Theresa and the staff of the Cancer Care Center of Tuscaloosa; Dr. Lee, Ada, Ruby and staff of Marion Clinic; Rick Calhoun and staff of Hale County Home Health; and Hillary, Tonya and staff of Comfort Care Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Siloam Baptist church.
