Obituary for Richard Wilson Kirkpatrick

Richard Wilson Kirkpatrick, age 92, of Forest Brook Drive, Demopolis, Alabama, went to be with his Lord on April 16, 2016, peacefully at home with his family.

Dick was a native of Ohio, living in Warren and North Canton. He was a decorated veteran of World War II earning a Purple Heart as an infantryman in France. Upon returning, he married his lovely wife, Doris Ruff, in 1946 and earned his degree in mechanical engineering from The Ohio State University.
After a successful career with US Steel for 32 years, he relocated to Demopolis, Ala., where he served the Lord as a deacon at First Presbyterian Church. Dick loved the Lord, his bride, and his family. He oversaw the construction of two homes for Habitat for Humanity and the Veterans Memorial in Linden.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Kirkpatrick; sons, Craig Kirkpatrick (Terri, Scott Kirkpatrick (Patty) and Gary Kirkpatrick (Melodee); grandchildren, Heather Davis (Joe), John Kirkpatrick (Kara), Kelly McNutt (Doug), Katie Gill (Chris), Kristy Johnson (Parker), Abigail Rehbeck (Darby), Lydia Latiolais (Andrew) and Hannah Kirkpatrick; and twelve great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Soldier's Heart Ministry (a ministry to veterans with PTSD), payable to: Presbyterian Evangelistic Fellowship, 100 5th Street Suite 330, Bristol, TN 37620 (Memo: Chris Gill).

A service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 2016, at First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Tommy Carr officiating and Kirk Funeral Home Demopolis directing. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church. The internment will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2016, at the National Cemetery in Montevallo.

Pallbearers will be Richard Kirkpatrick, Joesph Davis, Christopher Gill, Parker Johnson, John Kirkpatrick, Andrew Latiolais and Darby Rehbeck.

Honorary pallbearer is Doug McNutt.
