Obituary for Rod Gibson

Huey Rodgers (Rod) Gibson, Jr. quietly joined the Lord from his home in Demopolis with family at his side on March 12, 2018. Rod was born on November 1st, 1974 to Huey and Virginia (Ginger) Gibson in Greensboro, AL. He was raised in rural Hale County near Lake Payne and attended school in Greensboro. As a young man he worked with his father for several years at Gaddy and Jennings Electric shops in Demopolis, AL; additionally, for several years worked installing satellite systems for Direct TV throughout west Alabama and east Mississippi. Rod was also involved with the catfish industry in various capacities since his early teens, and servicing that industry would remain his lifetime career. Working in the catfish industry took Rod from checking ponds early-on to ultimately managing a catfish farm near Eutaw, AL - to most recently live-hauling catfish from producers’ ponds to processing plants. Rod was live-hauling fish for the past several years up until his untimely death.
Rod was the proud father of three children - Corbin, Hunter, and Harleigh in Hutchinson, KS. On December 27, 2006 he married Jessica (Nichole) Melton from Greensboro, AL. They had two children: Preston and Lindsey. They have lived in various cities over the years and settled in Demopolis about eight years ago.
Rod enjoyed fishing, hunting, working on vehicles, and was forever “wheeling-and-dealing” with various items. He was always willing to help and lend-a-hand, was very hard working and had a strong work ethic. More than anything Rod enjoyed spending time with family and friends; he was most at home when on family outings which he treasured, and was an exceptional husband and father. He always found a way to make things work in hard times - and his love for, and dedication to his family was second to none. Rod visited his children in Kansas as much as possible and yearly would bring them to his home in Alabama. His last visit to Kansas would be in October to see his eldest son Corbin play his final high school football game – and talked of that experience to anyone who would listen; he was very proud of all of his children. He had a great sense of humor and his “cackle” was contagious when he laughed, which he will be remembered for by anyone who spent any time around him. The most recent semi-driving fish hauling was a career that suited him well as he loved to meet people and the successful hard work was extremely rewarding – he would have it no other way.
Rod is survived by his wife, Nichole; sons Corbin and Hunter (Hutchinson, KS), Preston (Demopolis); and daughters Harleigh (Hutchinson, KS) and Lindsey (Demopolis); his parents Huey and Ginger Gibson (Faunsdale); sisters Sanet Ballard (Allen), Brenda George (Chris), and Cathy Stapleton (Tommy); eight nephews, six nieces, two great nephews and two great nieces. Extended family: Jerry and Terry Feist, Johnny Melton, and Matthew and Lauren Melton.
Viewing will be Friday, March 16 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Kirk Funeral Home – Demopolis Chapel. Memorial Service will be Saturday, March 17, 4:00 p.m. at Greensboro Bible Methodist Church in Greensboro, AL with Bro Steve Vernon officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to his wife and children: 110 Clover Court, Demopolis, AL 36732.

Rod will be sorely missed by all.
