Obituary for Hazel Rebecca Solomon Westbrook

Hazel Rebecca Solomon Westbrook, born December 7, 1931 to Emmett & Theodosia Solomon in Eutaw, Alabama, died July 30, 2018. She graduated from Green County High School and attended Huntington College. She married Albert G. (A.G.) Westbrook June 3, 1951. She is predeceased by her parents; her son, David Timothy; her sister, Sue Ray; brothers-in-law, Bill Ray and Johnny Spencer. She leaves to cherish her husband of 67 years, A.G.; sister, Jackie Spencer; brothers, Emmett (Lillian) Solomon, Charles (Joyce) Solomon; daughter, Becky (Mike) Bannon; son, Gary (Tina) Westbrook; grandsons, Brad (Lauren) Bannon, Rob (Kelly) Bannon; granddaughters, Haley Westbrook (Sam) Kirkpatrick, Lindsey Westbrook (Christopher) Lee; great grandchildren, Laney and Bates Bannon, Brooks and Kate Lee, Ann Hayes and Sam Kirkpatrick; many nieces and nephews.
Soon after their marriage, Hazel and A.G. spent six years of active Air Force service at several posts including Georgia, Texas, Massachusetts, and finally Newfoundland. Their children were born during this time. They returned to Demopolis in 1956 where upon Mrs. Westbrook focused on raising her children and cultivating friends through many community activities. Mrs Westbrook worked as the assistant to the principal at Demopolis Elementary School for many years and then as a kindergarten teacher for several years. She was a faithful member of Trinity Episcopal Church and served on its Alter Guild. She loved her bridge club, a good book, and frequent visits to the beach. Most importantly, she loved her extended family and the company of good friends. In her later years, the "Friday Night Red Barn Group" was a faithful reminder that fun and friends are important at all ages. She leaves a legacy as a loving wife, sister, mother, grand mother, great grandmother, and friend.
There will be a service of celebration on Friday, August 3, 2018, 10 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Demopolis followed by a graveside service at Riverside Cemetery.
The Westbrook family would like to extend its most sincere thanks to the many Demopolites who have generously shared their time and talents during Mrs. Westbrook's illness. Their many kindnesses can never be repaid. Thanks go out to the staff of Bryan Whitfield Hospital for their care and to the staff of Comfort Care Hospice for their care in Mrs. Westbrook's final few months. Finally, a special thanks to the staff and administration of Woodhaven Manor for their skilled care, consistent concern, and loving words provided to our entire family over the past several months. Demopolis is a special place.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Memorial Fund of Trinity Episcopal Church.
