Winnie Gates Walker, 101 went to her eternal home on April 2, 2020. She was born on November 27, 1918 in Carrolton, AL to Tom P. Gates and Donie Pullen Gates. During WW II, she packed parachutes at the Columbus Air Force Base. She later worked at F&F Drugs and Graves Company. She was a faithful member of Hope Baptist Church in Sweetwater, AL.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, O.O. "Johnny" Walker; sisters Dora Sanford, Connie Faye Williams; and brothers S.W. Gates and T.E.Gates.
She is survived by her daughter Brenda Allen (Jimmy); grandson Chris Allen (Heather) of Linden and her granddaughter Angie Reynolds (Jimmy) of Demopolis, AL.
She is also survived by her great-grandchildren; Hannah Allen, A.J.Reynolds, and R.D. Reynolds (Rachel); her nieces and nephews: Becky Carr, Joyce Couch, Jeanette Gay and Bobby Sanford.
Graveside funeral service was held at the Demopolis Memorial Garden Cemetery on April 6, 2020 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Fred Sakon officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes, Demopolis Chapel directing.
Honorary Pallbearers were: Bobby Sanford, Chris Allen, A.J. Reynolds, R.D. Reynolds, Jimmy Reynolds, and Tom Sessions; Comfort Care Hospice, Dr. Archie Hooper, Dr. Keith Dismukes and all the nurses and staff; also all the members of the Hope Baptist Church.
