Obituary for Gerald Howard Gilbert

Gerald Howard Gilbert , 91, of Demopolis, AL went to his eternal home on May 24, 2020. He was born on March 26, 1929 in Malone, New York to Roy Joseph Gilbert and Louise Emily Compo Gilbert. He was the founder and owner of Mr. G's in Demopolis as well as other business adventures throughout his life.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Irma Kathleen O'Reilly Gilbert and his sisters, Jean White, Joan Fazio, and Louise Burhyte.

He is survived by his sons, Mike Gilbert and Jeff Gilbert (Cheri); his daughters Debbie Green (Dr. John) and Diane Donahue (Tim). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Dr. John C. Green, Jr. (Dr. Kelly), Ashley DeAndrade (Dr. Kevin), Kathleen Wideman (John), Gerald J. Gilbert (Amanda), Michael Gilbert, Kristen James (Kirk), Tim Donahue, Jr.(Kacey), and Elizabeth Veres (Nick) along with 15 great-grandchildren.

Due to the COVID-19 virus, the family will hold a private funeral service on May 29, 2020 at 11:00 am at St. Leo Catholic Church followed by a private graveside service at Demopolis Memorial Gardens, with the Very Rev. Justin Ward officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes, Demopolis Chapel directing.

Pallbearers will be Dr. John C. Green, Jr., John Wideman, Dr. Kevin DeAndrade, Michael Gilbert, Gerald J. Gilbert, and Kirk James. Honorary pallbearers are the staff at Woodhaven Manor Nursing Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Leo's Catholic Church.
