Obituary for Ida Hibbler Colgrove (Long)

Ida Hibbler Long Colgrove, 93, of Boligee, AL, joined her husband in heaven on November 8, 2020 from her home on the hill. She was born on July 3, 1927 in Electric Mills, MS to Fred Long and Ida Ivy Grove Long. She was one of four children. She had two brothers and one sister.

She lived in Warsaw, AL and attended Panola public school until the 10th grade; then she attended Aliceville High School in Aliceville, AL where she graduated. After graduation, she moved to Montgomery, AL to work for the Alabama Legislature where she met her husband, Raymond McLemore Colgrove, Sr. They married on April 24, 1949. They moved to his home in Boligee and were married 63 years until his death on August 11, 2011. They were parents of 6 children: Raymond M. Colgrove, Jr., Edmund Hibbler Colgrove, Judith Elizabeth Colgrove, Joel McLemore Colgrove, Fredrick Reid Colgrove, and Melanie Ann Colgrove.

She joined the Boligee Presbyterian church soon after she was married to Raymond. While her children were little, the whole family were there every Sunday, sitting on the front row. She loved her family. She cooked, took care of them and gave them her love. She attended ball games, cheerleader performances, and all school activities. She was Postmaster for 25 years, Probate Clerk in Eutaw, AL, and worked for the Greene County Engineers. She loved to play bridge and cross stitch for recreation and loved being active in the "women of the church" meeting at the Presbyterian church in Boligee.

Funeral services will be Wednesday 11, 2020 at 2:00 pm at the Boligee Presbyterian church with Rev. Derrick Brite officiating and Kirk Funeral Home Demopolis chapel directing. Interment will follow the service at St. Mark's Episcopal Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Clark King, Josh King, Joel Colgrove Jr., Reid Colgrove, Jr., Chris Myers, Edmund Colgrove, Jr., Kurtis Colgrove, and Weston Colgrove.

Survivors include: her daughters Judith Elizabeth King (Chris) of Aliceville and Melanie Ann Colgrove Guy of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; her sons Edmund Hibbler Colgrove, Sr., Joel McLemore Colgrove (Jayne), and Fredrick Reid Colgrove, Sr. (Cindy) all from Boligee, AL; and her daughter-in-law Fran Colgrove. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She also leaves behind her faithful friends, Oneida Binion, Patsy Minus, and Mattie Strode.
