Obituary for John Cecil Crawford

John Cecil Crawford, 77, of Marion passed away December 23, 2021 at DCH Regional Medical Center. He was born June 16, 1944 in Morgan Springs, AL. He was the youngest of five children born to William Eugene, Sr. and Lucille Hannah Crawford. He lived and worked in Perry County his entire life. His career in the auto parts business spanned more than 5 decades beginning as an employee of A&S Auto Parts before acquiring the business in 2001 and changing its name to NAPA Marion, Inc. He retired in 2016 having built a loyal clientele by providing outstanding customer service and expertise in the auto parts business for over 51 years. Cecil enjoyed serving others and demonstrated that commitment to his community as a dedicated member of the Marion Volunteer Fire Department for 50 years, serving as chief for three decades.

Cecil was a servant of Jesus Christ and a member of the Marion United Methodist Church and also attended Ridgeville Church of the Nazarene. He set a quiet example by living a life of faith, reading his Bible and devotions, and by serving the church in a variety of ways. He acknowledged his imperfections but always sought to serve the Lord humbly.

Cecil was an avid fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide. He also enjoyed fishing, but anyone who knew Cecil knew his hobby of choice was golf. He was competitive on the course and thoroughly enjoyed the comradery of his golfing buddies through his many years of membership at the Marion Military Institute Golf Course.

Cecil wanted very much for his children to have access to educational opportunities beyond those he had received, and he and Christine sacrificed significantly to make that happen. In addition, he was particularly proud of the educational accomplishments of each of his grandchildren.

Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, William Eugene Crawford, Jr. and Francis Allen Crawford. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Christine W. Crawford; children, Teresa Crawford (Sammy Stevens), John Crawford (Mary), and Angela Crawford Livingston (Scott); grandchildren, Jack Crawford, Preston Crawford, Kathryn Crawford, Jacob Livingston, and Kelsey Livingston; sister, Trudy Geneva Carmichael (Thomas Hawey); brother, James Edward Crawford (Shirley), a special cousin, George L. Crawford (Laura) who was much like a brother; and sister-in-law, Vivian Bauer; as well as numerous other cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Monday, December 27th, at 3:00 pm at Fellowship Cemetery with Pastor Ken Wyatt officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes, Marion Chapel directing. Pallbearers will be Jacob Livingston, Preston Crawford, Jack Crawford, Paul Carmichael, Larry Watkins, and Tim Hughey. Honorary pallbearers are all past and present members of the Marion Volunteer Fire Department, George Crawford, David Wallace, Ben Miller, Gawen Rich, Randy Goss, Kenneth Brewer, Corin Harrison, Jr., Willie James Bell, Carolyn Sandlin, Bill Douglas, and the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit physicians and nurses of DCH Regional Medical Center.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Fellowship Cemetery Fund, C/O Vivian Bauer, 202 Dogwood Lane, Marion, AL 36756.
