Obituary for Floyd Glass

Floyd Glass, 81, of Gallion, Alabama, passed away on November 5, 2022. Floyd was born to Thomas and Magdalene Glass on July 22, 1941 in Aid, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Billy and Jerry and his sister Freida. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, of 54 years; his daughter, Jennifer (Ken); his son, Wade (Gina); his brothers Lloyd and Terry; and 3 grandchildren Dalton, Lucy, and Lena.

Floyd had a simple childhood, growing up in Eddyville, Kentucky. He left Kentucky at the age of 17 to serve in the military, where he became a diver for the U.S. Navy. After his service, Floyd continued his education and received his Bachelor of Science from the University of West Alabama. Shortly thereafter, Floyd got a job at Gulf States Paper Corporation, where he worked as a maintenance foreman for 35 years. Alongside this full-time job, Floyd and Ruth worked diligently as livestock farmers, raising cattle and catfish commercially for many years.

Floyd’s passion for life was as strong as his work ethic. He and Ruth learned to sail together, and they went scuba diving in many exotic places, including The Great Blue Hole in Belize. He loved to drive and work on fast cars. He drove Deal’s Gap in North Carolina, and he participated in Vettes for Vets at Talladega Superspeedway, where he drove other veterans around the track in his Corvette. In his later years, his main joy was his grandkids, but he never stopped working on cars.

A small service will be held at Kirk Funeral Home Chapel in Demopolis on November 10, 2022 at 2:00 pm.
