Obituary for Donald Phillips Lamb

Donald Phillips Lamb went to be in heaven with his beloved wife Rachel Bambarger Lamb on Wednesday
November 16th, 2022. He was born on September 12th, 1932 in Knoxville, AL. He had recently celebrated
his 90th birthday at his home with family and friends. Donald was the son of the late Mr. James Houston
Lamb and Mrs. Beatrice Phillips Lamb. Donald grew up in Knoxville, Alabama where he began his early
education in a one room schoolhouse. He attended Greene County High School where he met the love
of his life Rachel Bambarger. He played football and baseball at Greene County High School where he
graduated in 1950. Donald married Rachel on June 11, 1952. He got his first job working for Taylor
Veneer Company as a lumber inspector. Donald joined the United States Air Force in 1953. After
completing boot camp he was assigned to Montgomery Air Force Base (now Maxwell, AFB). After
training in Cheyenne, Wyoming he was assigned to Kindley, AFB in Bermuda as a Communications
Specialist. Donald was Honorably Discharged as a Staff Sargent in 1957. After returning to Alabama he
settled in Demopolis, AL with his wife Rachel and daughter. Donald was employed at Gulf States Paper
Company in July, 1957 in the Maintenance Group and was employed there until his retirement in 1988.
After retirement he began a second career a guide in Colorado for elk hunts. For the next fifteen years
he and Rachel enjoyed travelling out west during elk season. Donald was an avid outdoorsman enjoying
golfing, hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his wife Rachel Lamb, his parents Mr. and Mrs. James Houston Lamb, his
brothers James Houston Lamb, Jr. and Gene Lamb. He is survived by his sister Mary Katherine Lary, his
daughters Patricia Battle (Jim) of Warner Robins, GA and Teresa Parrett (Barry) of Somerset, Kentucky,
and his son Michael Lamb of Demopolis, AL. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and nine great
grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 20, 2022 at the Mesopotamia Cemetery in Eutaw, AL with Kirk Funeral Homes, Demopolis Chapel directing.
