Gary Wayne Smith, 59 , of Marion, died April 17, 2017 surrounded by his daughter and his family. He was born August 28, 1957 in Perry county to Bobbie Jean Smith Powell and the late Charles William Smith. He is survived by his mother Bobbie Jean Powell ( Melvin ) of Centreville; daughter Michelle Smith Simmons ( Cole ) of Marion; grandchildren Gary Larsen Simmons of Marion and William Cade Simmons of Greensboro; brothers William Larry Smith ( Lynn ) of McCalla and Doug Smith ( Robbie ) of Centreville; sister Charlene Averette ( Mike ) of Marion; and a very special friend, Janice Smith of Greensboro. Funeral service will be Wednesday April 19, 2017 at 3 p.m. at Waycross Bible Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 until 3. Bro. Ray Grantham will be officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes Greensboro Chapel will be directing. Active pallbearers will be Brad Miller, Greg Miller, Tonya Hollingsworth, Ronnie St. John, James Woolbright, Bo Martin, Matt Simmons, Kenny Meadows, and Armondo Garcia. Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of Big M Excavating, Barry Smith, Earl Morris, Mike Golden, Randy Sims, Joey Taylor and nieces and nephews.
